Cherry Syrup Base
- 2 cups fresh cherries, pitted
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
Liquid Mix-In
- 3/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
- 4 cups cold water or sparkling water
Serving & Garnishes
- ice cubes for serving
- fresh lime slices for garnish
- whole fresh cherries for garnish
Add the pitted cherries, sugar, and 1 cup water to a saucepan over medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the cherries soften and release their juices, about 5 minutes.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
Transfer the cherry mixture to a blender and blend until completely smooth.
Pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl. Press gently with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible while removing skins and excess pulp.
Transfer the strained cherry concentrate to a large pitcher.
Stir in the freshly squeezed lime juice until fully combined.
Add the cold water or sparkling water and stir well.
Fill serving glasses with ice cubes and pour the cherry limeade over the ice.
Garnish with fresh lime slices and whole cherries before serving.
Storage: Store finished limeade in an airtight pitcher in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Prep Ahead: Prepare the cherry concentrate up to 2 days in advance and mix with lime juice and water when ready to serve.
Frozen Cherries: Frozen cherries can be substituted for fresh cherries. Thaw slightly before cooking.
Flavor Adjustments: If the drink is too tart, add sweetener a tablespoon at a time. If too sweet, add extra lime juice gradually.
Variation: Use sparkling water for a fizzy version or blend with extra ice for a frozen slush-style drink.
Serving Tip: Freeze whole cherries and use them instead of ice cubes to prevent dilution.
